IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER
Our water system recently violated drinking water standards. Although this was not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do, and what we are doing to correct this situation.
Maves Co. RWD#5 Has Levels of(Haloacetic Acids (HAA5) Above Drinking Water Standards
We routinely monitor for the presence of drinking water contaminants. Testing results we received for indicated time period(s) show that our system exceeds the standard, or maximum contaminant level (MCL), for haloacetic acids. The standard or MCL for haloacetic acids is 0.060mg/L It is determined by averaging all the samples collected at each sampling location for the past 12 months. The level of haloacetic acids averaged at our system's locations was 0.062mg/L during the third quarter.
What should I do? There is nothing you need to do unless you have a severely compromised immune system, have an infant or are elderly. These people may be at increased risk and should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers.
What does this mean? This is not an emergency. Ifit had been, you would have been notified immediately. Some people who drink water containing haloacetic acids in excess of the MCL over many years may have an increased risk of getting cancer.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
What happened? Our routine testing indicated we exceeded the maximum contaminant level for haloacetic acids.
What is being done? Rural Water District No 5 are working with our water supplier and flushing lines to reduce the situation.
When will the violation be resolved? Rural Water District No 5 is working on the issue at this time and will continue to do so until sampling test results are within normal range for haloacetic acids.
